Group AML Manager
The Group AML Manager is the operational leader of the Onboarding and Transaction Monitoring functions at group level, accountable for the day-to-day performance, quality, and consistency of onboarding and transaction monitoring activity across all entities, and for building a single, well-resourced, and well-governed operation.
This is a operational compliance role reporting to the Chief Operating Officer: the individual will directly manage team leads and will sit alongside, and work closely with, the MLROs globally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Leadership & People Management
· Lead, manage and develop the Group Onboarding and Transaction Monitoring teams, including team leads/supervisors in each region, setting clear objectives, capacity plans, and performance standards
· Own resourcing and workforce planning across jurisdictions, balancing onshore/regional/offshore or outsourced capacity against volume growth, licence expansion, and seasonal peaks
· Build a consistent group-wide operating rhythm: shift patterns, escalation paths, quality assurance sampling, and productivity/SLA reporting across all sites
· Coach and upskill team leads on AML/CFT judgement, investigation standards, and regulatory expectations; drive a culture of ownership and continuous improvement rather than pure box-ticking
Onboarding (CDD/KYC) Operations
· Own the day-to-day performance of onboarding operations across all entities, including approval/rejection rates, time-to-onboard, and EDD queue management
· Ensure onboarding decisions are applied consistently against approved risk appetite and jurisdictional policy
· Monitor onboarding quality through feedback loops, identifying and correcting systemic decisioning issues before they become regulatory findings
· Partner with the compliance product/project function on the operational rollout of onboarding system or policy changes, providing frontline operational input into design
Transaction Monitoring Operations
· Own the day-to-day performance of transaction monitoring operations, including alert queues, SLA adherence, case investigation quality, and SAR/STR filing timeliness across all jurisdictions
· Manage alert volumes and backlog risk proactively, escalating capacity or tuning issues for resolution (e.g. excessive false positives)
· Ensure investigation narratives and case files meet the evidentiary standard expected by regulators and auditors, with consistent quality across all regional teams
· Track and report on typology trends and emerging risks surfaced through monitoring, feeding intelligence back into the wider Compliance function
Governance, Reporting & Assurance
· Produce regular MI and dashboards on onboarding and TM operational performance for the regional MLROs and relevant governance committees
· Support internal audit, external audit, and regulatory examinations by ensuring teams can evidence process adherence, decision rationale, and case history on request
· Own closure of any legacy operational findings (e.g. previously identified gaps in onboarding or monitoring effectiveness) with verifiable, sustainable remediation rather than one-off fixes
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
· Onboarding and transaction monitoring teams consistently meet SLA, quality, and regulatory timeliness standards across every licensed entity, not just the largest ones
· Team leads are capable, confident, and empowered to manage their own queues
· Operational MI gives early warning of emerging risk, such as capacity strain, backlog build-up, or quality drift, well before it becomes a finding
· Regulators, banking partners and auditors reviewing onboarding/TM operations find a consistent, well-evidenced, and well-managed function across the group
REQUIREMENTS
· 10+ years in AML/CFT operations, with substantial experience managing onboarding (CDD/KYC) and/or transaction monitoring teams in a payments, e-money, banking, or fintech environment
· Proven people-management experience, including managing managers, running multi-site or multi-jurisdictional operational teams, and handling resourcing/capacity decisions
· Strong working knowledge of AML/CFT regulatory expectations across multiple jurisdictions and how they translate into day-to-day operational decisions
· Comfortable with operational metrics and reporting, including SLA/turnaround management, QA/QC frameworks, and alert/case volume forecasting
· Experience operating within a Three Lines of Defence model and engaging directly with regulators, auditors, and senior compliance stakeholders
· Track record of remediating operational control weaknesses in a sustainable way, ideally including exposure to a regulator-facing remediation programme
· Professional certification (ICA, ACAMS, CAMS) or equivalent is desirable
· Experience managing outsourced or offshore KYC/TM operations teams is desirable
· Familiarity with case management and transaction monitoring platforms, and the ability to interpret alert/case data to drive operational decisions, is desirable
· Experience in a scale-up/high-growth payments or EMI environment operating across multiple licences simultaneously is desirable
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
· Chief Operating Officer — primary reporting line, escalation, and strategic direction
· Regional MLROs — jurisdictional oversight, escalations, and local regulatory requirements
· Compliance product/project leads — operational input into onboarding and TM system/process change initiatives
· Internal Audit and external regulators/auditors — evidence, walkthroughs, and remediation tracking
Please note, candidates will need to have the right to work in the jurisdiction that they are looking to work in.
